Who We Are

Blue-Blazed Trail Volunteers help CFPA on the trails in a variety of ways. From our trail managers to our work party volunteers to folks who help us inventory trail structures, this initiative is for people looking to be out on the trail. Volunteers generally should have a reasonable level of physical fitness, the  ability to follow CFPA safety practices and safe tool usage, and willingness to work cooperatively with other volunteers. Please make sure to “Fan” this initiative if this sounds like you!If you are interested in volunteering with a group, please use this link on the website

What We Do

Most of our Blue-Blazed Trail Volunteers join us for work parties around the state. These work parties might be focused on moving lumber, building a bridge, re-routing a trail, clearing an overgrown trail, or other goals. Most volunteer work parties are open to all volunteers who can access the site, no matter their skill level, however some are specific to sawyers or people comfortable with certain tools. Work parties are a great chance to work as part of a team, gain experience with trail tools, and get out on trails!

Other volunteer opportunities might include electronically inventorying trail structures, leading hikes or helping with trail work supplies in the shop.

Some of our most committed trail volunteers are our Trail Managers.  Trail Managers are each responsible for 3-6 miles of Blue-Blazed trail. They perform regular maintenance as well as monitoring for major issues or land use changes that might impact their trail section. Volunteers interested in a trail manager position should look out for an “Open Trail Manager Positions” opportunity.

Chainsaw and First-Aid training are occasionally offered for Blue-Blazed Trail volunteers. There are often spring, winter or fall trails workshops which are a great way to learn or brush up on your trail skills.
