Who We Are

The CFPA Rock Stars are a dedicated, fun and hardworking group of volunteers who build native rock structures on the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails. The team usually meets twice a month from March through December.

If you are looking for a regular opportunity to volunteer and build trail skills, the Rock Stars might be for you!

What We Do

The Rock Stars build all kinds of trail structures out of rock, including stairs, retaining walls, brook crossings, and more... all using rocks from the surrounding area. It is a lot of physical work but there is an engineering aspect that requires a lot of brain muscle too.  Not only does the crew figure out where to build the structures, but the best way to build them to insure that they are functional, attractive, fit in with the landscape and are built to last!

The crew works with handtools like picks, shovels, and rock bars…but also with high-line rigging and winches to move large rocks across the landscape. Projects can be deep in the woods or closer to trailheads. Sometimes, longer hiking is required.  Typically, we meet to work from 9am to 4pm on the 2nd Thursday and Friday of the month

As a Rock Star you will learn about new trails around the state and have fun working with a great group of volunteers. This is a great opportunity to meet new friends and give back to your fellow hikers.  Besides which, who doesn’t want to be a Rock Star?!
