Description

Ready to make a difference in environmental education? Attend our required orientation to get started as an education volunteer with the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA). During this training, we'll cover key topics including

  • CFPA’s mission, goals, and the role of volunteers in supporting environmental education
  • An overview of educational programs volunteers will be assisting with
  • How CFPA ensures a safe learning environment, both indoors and outdoors
  • CFPA tips to make environmental topics engaging through hands-on activities, nature games, and storytelling
  • Ideas for working with different age groups, backgrounds, and experience levels
  • How to lead discussions, encourage questions, and foster curiosity
  • How to gain an understanding of group behaviors and how to manage large or small groups of participants effectively
  • Tips to encourage participants to connect with the local environment and develop a sense of stewardship

The orientation will take place in the CFPA Meeting Room, with portions held outdoors, so please dress appropriately for the weather and bring everything you’ll need for a 3-hour session (snacks, water, etc.). Please note that all volunteers must complete a future background check to volunteer in youth programs. We look forward to welcoming you to our team and helping you get started in this important work!
