Ready to make a difference in environmental education? Attend our required orientation to get started as an education volunteer with the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA).
During this training, we'll cover key topics including:
- CFPA’s mission, goals, and the role of volunteers in supporting environmental education
- An overview of educational programs volunteers will be assisting with
- How to ensure a safe learning environment, both indoors and outdoors
- How to make environmental topics engaging through hands-on activities, nature games, and storytelling
- Tips for working with different age groups, backgrounds, and experience levels
- How to lead discussions, encourage questions, and foster curiosity
- How to gain an understanding of group behaviors and how to manage large or small groups of participants effectively
- Tips to encouraging participants to connect with the local environment and develop a sense of stewardship
The orientation will take place in the CFPA Meeting Room, with portions held outdoors, so please dress appropriately for the weather and bring everything you’ll need for a 4-hour session (lunch, snacks, water, etc.). Please note that all volunteers must complete a background check prior to volunteer for youth programs. We look forward to welcoming you to our team and helping you get started in this important work!
